118. "Balancing Acts: Running Your Business While Growing Your Family” with Kristina and Herbert Heagh-Avritt
Dawn talks with Kristina and Herbert Heagh-Avritt. Kristina and Herbert met in college and soon became inseparable. After 31 years of marriage and raising two sons they have combined their experience, passion, and knowledge to found Vibrant Family Education and the Brining Education Home podcast. Dawn, Kristina, and Herbert talk about your family and your business.
In this episode…
Who are Kristina and Herbert and whom do they serve? (01:14).
How has the modern, busy lifestyle, particularly in entrepreneurship, affected the traditional practice of family dinners and imparting important values and education to children? (2:58).
So we don't want our kids to know necessarily what's all going on, which can somehow be turned and interpreted as somehow not including them or not spending time with them in a way that maybe they felt supported. (5:51).
What's happening in our schools is really bad right now. They're taking away the individual learning. They're taking away teaching to mastery. (9:00)
So a lot of parents right now think that that's what homeschooling is like, That is not what homeschooling is like. That is what COVID schools were like. (13:11).
What age-appropriate or when do you think it's time to bring people into the family business so that they can learn inside what's going on day to day? At what point do we actually start to kind of put some of this love of learning in their areas of passion into a productive way so that they can see a result or an outcome in the business. (16:15)
Entrepreneurship is something that has really seemed to blossom over the last year or two, where kids are making baked goods at home because they get the license or they're making dog trades. I've seen several local, you know, 15, 16-year-old, dog treat makers, right? And things like that. So, how do we encourage that, even if that is not our core business? (17:46)
